Did you sleep on the wrong side of the bed? Or probably had chocolates before going to sleep? What about coffee or tea? Or maybe you had too much to eat last night? These are primary questions of physicians when you complained about Heartburn and you are not a pregnant woman. It is that pinching, burning pain on the side of the chest when you breathe. Most pregnant women suffer from this which is normal. But if you are not, then you are probably suffering from a symptom of Acid Reflux or GORD/GERD in medical terms it is either, Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), or Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GORD). Simply put – Acid Reflux.
Heartburn is considered one of the symptoms of acid reflux which is identified as chronic mucous damage because of stomach acid coming up to the esophagus. Although a patient with heart disease may suffer from heartburns too.
Causes of Heartburn can be a sleeping in a wrong position or too much acid intake before sleeping. Acidic foods are chocolates, coffee, tea, fruit juices and fatty foods. Eating too much a few hours before bedtime may cause heartburn due to indigestion. While Heartburns can be avoided, Acid reflux needs a more serious diagnosis. Sometimes depending on its severity, surgery is required after a series of X-rays and tests. This may happen when gallstones impede the flow of bile which can affect the ability to neutralize gastric acids. The gallstones are then removed, and are typical to adult patients. Acid reflux in children may cause vomiting, effortless spitting up, coughing, and other respiratory problems such as wheezing.
In other for one to know if a baby is having a reflux, notice their inconsolable crying, refuse to eat, cries for food and then pulls off the bottle or breast only to cry for it again, failure to gain adequate weight, bad breath, too much burping are also common. Children may have one symptom or many, they don’t have a common symptom.
Understanding Heartburn and Acid Reflux points to what caused it in the first place. You suffer from Acid Reflux because of eating too much chocolate before going to sleep, and you are now feeling it’s symptom with the consistent Heartburns.
